Description
Rare 1956 Suez campaign affected Syrian mail: 12 Nov 1956 postmarked cover sent from NEBIK Syria & franked 12 1/2 piastres, tied by 2x strikes of the local postmark; owing to the Israeli-British-French military campaign in the Egyptian Sinai peninsula (29 Oct - 7 Nov 1956) this cover was uniquely subjected to censorship - opened and sealed with green label & tied by oval red "24" censor seal. Kibble records only one piece of mail (German addressed to Egypt) with an actual postal suspension no-service marking (applied by the German post office itself); otherwise no other mail is known with indications of it being affected by the Sinai campaign - especially Arabian mail. Slit open at left.
