Description
Jordanian post-1967 War "no service" mail to Israel + mimeograph discovery: 11 Dec 1967 postmarked air mail cover sent from ATHENS Greece to well known Christian-Arab business of Basil Rittas in the OLD CITY of JERUSALEM, franked 5 Drachma & tied by local machine cancel; routed (correctly, prior to the War) via JORDAN where backstamped 13 Dec 67 AMMAN transit: with destination locale now held by Israel, as of Sept. 1967 Jordan held back all mail destined to former Jordanian territories now newly held by Israel, in AMMAN - and released it back to senders en masse 13 months later (Sept. 1968), after applying English-language "Return to Sender | Delivery Prevented by Enemy Occupation of Jordad(sic) Territory" instructional marking K-Type-Va handstamp on the front.
The cover was resent without additional postage required (per UPU regulations); the address post office box number was amended & the back affixed with a bilingual Hebrew/Arabic Israeli postal instructional marking K-Type-M5 label applied by the JERUSALEM head post office, indicating delayed delivery & requesting in future that address be written as "JERUSALEM, Israel" - here a discovery as the alignment of the text, particularly the bottom line in Arabic is more right-aligned than documented in Kibble, possibly a different printing of the notice; not tied by the Israeli postmark; slit open at top.
