Eve 1967 Six Day War Israeli army self-censorship campaign: May 1967 issued illustrated notice (by Meir Dan) calling to "Lock the Tongue" ('Lashon Natzur' - a play on the command to lock a rifle's fireing mechanism); the exhortation reads "Combat Soldier! Today more than any time the enemies' intelligence strives to disrupt and disable the combat readiness of the IDF and to harm its fighting spirit. The enemy is desperate for information! You must prevent the enemy from achieving his goal - Protect the IDF's Secrets!" The notice lists a number of measures that soldiers can undertake to bolster field security, including caution in speech, being careful with documents, being caution when speaking over communications systems, and not revealing details about the units one serves in. The Six Day War began as an Israeli surprise attack on 6 June.
