Description

WWII era continental Jewish mail from Nazi Germany without "Israel"/"Sarah" return address: 13 Nov 1939 postmarked pre-paid [detached] postal reply card with long message in German dated the day before, sent by surface mail from MAGDEBURG to ZURICH Switzerland & tied by single circle local postmark with odd index letters below: as the sender left a blank line between the addressee's name and their address the German postal service stamped the postcard with an instructional marking "Vergiss nicht Strasse und Hausnummer anzugeben." (Don’t forget to give the street and house number). Jewish correspondence confirmed from other postcards sent by this sender; Nazi regulations required Jews to include the name "Israel" (for males) or "Sarah" (for females) in their return addresses to identify themselves as Jews - here, the sender apparently tried to circumvent this.
