Description
1966 refused taxed mail to Britain: 15 Feb 1966 postmarked EL-AL picture postcard of Dan Hotel TEL AVIV, sent from TEL AVIV to LONDON & mailed unfranked: though postmarked on the empty field by the TEL AVIV-16 post office postmark, the postcard was not marked locally for tax and evidentally still dispatched by air as evidenced by the subsequent backstamped 22 Feb. LONDON arrival.
Here the postcard was found to be unpaid & taxed 8d, marked by "Posted unpaid" boxed instructional marking handstamp; the postage dues were levied using 1x 2d & 2x 3d British postage dues franks tied by the WILLESDEN NW10 postmark; nevertheless the charge & acceptance of mail was refused by the addressee on 17 March (manuscript; likely at Kings Cross post office). The postage due franks were annulled by "Charge not Collected" cross cachet + manuscript obliterations & postcard marked by "return to sender" cachet (here, hotel address on the postcard). Scarce type of postage dues mail.
