1961 incoming British taxed mail: 2(?) Oct 1961 postmarked surface mailed cover sent from the UK to the manager of the Dan Hotel in TEL AVIV & franked 3d - but found to be under-paid 3d for the base 6d rate & marked for tax by the LONDON post office Foreign Section using a 21C denominated hexigonal taxe mark, charging the cover 21 gold centimes for twice the deficient postage (6d) at a rate of 1d : 3½g ctm.
In Israel the post office converted the gold centimes fee per the period exchange rate of 0.6 agora : 1g ctm, reflecting the 1960 Israeli currency reform from 1/1000 Prutot to 1/100 Agorot, and charged the cover 12 agorot, levied on 25 Oct using a 0.12L 1961 Zodiac stamp (Ba# 210), tied by TEL AVIV-23 (head post office) postmark; backstamped 27 Oct TEL AVIV-87 (Nordau Street branch post office, which serviced the hotel) transit-arrival; the manuscript reference "3219" on the front is the Hotel's post office box to which such taxed mail was routed & accumulated pending postage dues payment; opened gently at back.
