Description
1948 interim period wrapper to KFAR GILADI: undated 2-14 May 1948 period printed matter newspaper wrapper sent from TEL AVIV to KFAR GILADI via ROSH PINNA post office, franked 3 mils for the base inland postage rate & tied by strike of the local interim postmark. A rare destination + rare postal item, especially from the interim period: the locale was under enemy fire and often cut off from April, and by order of the Israeli High Command the settlement's children were evacuated in June to Haifa, and returned back 4 months later; a locally adapted armored car called "the monster" (HaMifletzet) was used by the pre-State army, the 'Haganah', to clear the road between Kfar Giladi and Rosh Pinna of obstacles, as well as other roadways in the north Galilee.
