Description

Haifa postmark proving cover: 14 June 1944 postmarked express cover sent from JERUSALEM to HAIFA, franked 35 mils per the postage rate & tied by 2x strikes of the JERUSALEM-EXPRESS postmark (G index letter - late shift); backstamped next day by 2x different 24mm single-circle postmarks of different departments of the Haifa head post office - one with wide "H" and "F" in "HAIFA" & index letter "T" (as GD #35 / Sach #B15, but with 21mm width between H-A), and one with wide "F" and index letter "C"with 19mm wide H-A (undocumented in GD and Sacher) - evidently 2 different departments processed the receipt of express mail; GD #35 is often regarded as having been used with the telegraphs department, but here we see its use on mail albeit it may be an undocumented postmark as it's H-A width is 21mm. Slit open at top, original 14 June German correspondence included.
