Description

Undocumented violet oval cachet of the ship LLOYD AUSTRIACO PIROSCAFO EUTERPE (Steamer 'Euterpe') tied to 10 Para overprinted imprinted 5 Heller frank on front of 1900 edition prepaid wrapper of the Austrian Holy Land post office (Ba #151); undated; addressed to addressee in KARLSRUHE Germany & tied by carmine illustrated return-address handstamp of Reinhold Aberle of JERUSALEM.

The sender is documented as a member of the German Templar community and owner of a 'Mercantile Agency' which provided credit reporting services; among his apparent relatives (Wilhelm) was the agent for German Levant & Hamburg-America shipping companies as well as the mayor of the Jaffa-Sarona community and anti-Nazis during the Third Reich period.

The 'Euterpe' (1886-1918, sunk) was a steamer of the Austrian Lloyd company which travelled a route between JAFFA and TRIESTE, here with a ship cachet undocumented in Bale or the specialist literature - rare as a maritime mailed wrapper.
